The title is probably correct: The Art--that is, not a practical guide. It is certainly NOT Stonemason for Dummies. I felt like it jumped right into vocabulary and concepts without defining them--even using the glossary for help. Difficult for a beginner to really start confidently with this book. The co. bbobg said Interesting enough and did provide a lot of good information. A lot of pictures on various stone. Interesting enough and did provide a lot of good information. A lot of pictures on various stone structures, but it could have provided a more info on the building process such as how to build the supports for arches and etc. Not a bad book, just not quite five stars.. "Lots of info for random rubble with mortar. I" according to Amazon Customer. Lots of info for random rubble with mortar. I was wanting more info on retaining walls. Lots of old terminology. Photos are a little dark and lose detail. Still interesting to me as a builder.

Drawing on five generations of family tradition as stonemasons in his Native Scotland, Ian Cramb created this masterful work to pass on his knowledge and experience to craftsmen who wish to learn the ancient, but still necessary, principles of the stonemason's art.
