When I picked this up, I knew Roudinesco have been a qualified defender of Lacan and the writer of a massive biography of the man. I half-feared that this would either be mostly apologetics or it would be a condensed and abridged version of the longer work. It is neither. It is part biography, part critic. Wonderfully written Bafta I just adored this book. It gives an wonderful overview of the man and his ideas. More intense chapters on Lacan's theories are lightened by lovingly recounted stories about his life.
