DESCRIPTION:
There are simple projects that you can make with children, complex ones that you can take on yourself and machines that call for team effort. From a tiny balloon-powered boat that will entrance a toddler to a light-following robot, there's something here to cover every mood and all abilities. The detailed step-by-step instructions hold your hand along the way, whether you're sawing wood or putting a circuit board together, ensuring that every project always reaches a successful and enjoyable conclusion.. Most have elements that you can show off to an admiring audience when they're completed, like the huge hot-air balloon that you can send floating up into an evening sky, or Stomper, the tiny dancing robot
"Boom! You will have fun even if you don't make this sound" according to R. Severson. I'm having a great time paging through this book. The projects look like fun things I can do with my son, and the illustrated steps are very clear. Each project lists the tools and parts that you will need. There was a lot of effort put into this book.Recommended as projects to do with your kids if you want to teach them some great hands-on skills.Edit: Oddly my version of this book is "18 DIY projects to make" and the cover of at least one version here says "20 DIY projects to make". Not sure why, but there is still plenty of fun in this one book.. Perfect for father-son teams, Boy Scouts, and aspiring Mr. Wizards Jason Divided into four sections, this book is an inspirational and brings out the scientist, the engineer in all of us. It's inspiring, really. If there were ever a book to convince children of the importance of science, to involve them in something difficult yet rewarding, to make being smart and inventive something cool. The four sections of the book are separated very well. Machines that:1) Turn, throw, and shoot fire2) Swim and fly3) Walk4) TalkI can think of several reasons this book could come in handy. Become your own Mr. Wizard and build a six volt turbine, an Indonesian fire kite (YES!), or a pneumatic boat! This. "Five Stars" according to Walter Grundler. My son loves this book with all its great ideas and plans. He wants to start building right away.
