I felt I was in the hands of a balanced, level-headed author who considered every alternative without bias, provided proof, and qualified his speculations. My favorite moment was when Crowley drafted a manifesto for Russia to create a Thelema religion with himself as the savior - and he proposed it to Isadora Duncan. Wow.I really enjoyed immersing myself in Crowley's life without the experience ever feeling sensationalized. Instead it taught me a lot about spy-work, even though that's something I study about regularly. The amount of deception a triple agent must pull off is mind boggling. Spence never took the cheap route of a. "Interesting parallels with history, even though much of it" according to Don Wingo.
