DESCRIPTION:
Part of Delmar Learning's National Center for Telecommunications Technologies series, this new book offers a complete, concise and practical introduction to fiber optic communications. Full of detailed descriptions of actual systems applications, the book concludes with practical instruction on the installation and troubleshooting of fiber optic communications networks and systems.. Coverage begins with a brief history, and explanation of the advantages of fiber optics, and a description of basic telecommunication systems. Increased coverage of basic optics and communications provide the background for understanding modern fiber-optics devices
"Excellent desk reference" according to Kindle Customer. Not having an extensive background in engineering, I found this book to be very useful in understanding the "black magic" of fiber optic cable and devices. This book is a must for anyone to designs communication systems.. Greg said Good information, bad examples. This book seems to explain fiber in some good detail. it shows the theory behind the concept and information about the physical layer of fiber. On the down side: The examples are terrible. This book constantly shows examples with wrong math, and incorrect information. The formulas they show switch back and forth using different forms the formula without real info as to why. Then the answers shown in the back of the book for end of chapter qu. BJESC said Harumph. The chapters were informative enough and the quiz questions easy enough, however, there were several cases where the wrong answer was marked as the correct one. Had to constantly argue over those with the assistant instructor and regular instructor. Not fun.
