DESCRIPTION:
"Great book. Arrived in time" according to Yi-Leng Chen. Great book. Arrived in time.
"a solid reference that could, in certain cases, be used as a course text.a major achievement.Five years from now I will undoubtedly look on my book shelf and wonder how I managed to get along without this volume. Numerous figures and diagrams make the book useful for graduate students and teachers as well." Yuri N. A corner has indeed been turned." Larry Pratt, Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society"a good combination of theoretical, observational and numerical results, both classical and recent. Skiba, Mathematical Reviews
With an emphasis on both theory and experiment, this text describes the behavior of homogeneous and density-stratified fluids over and around topography. The topics include the flow of a homogeneous layer with a free surface--the prototype for conventional hydraulics--the corresponding phenomena in two-layer flows, and a description of the properties of linear waves in stratified fluids in motion. The author applies the aforementioned properties to laboratory and numerical modeling of flow through real complex terrain.
