Cryptic Counselor said Lachman's Shorter Writings- a good collection for people who aren't quite ready for his longer histories.. Gary Lachman is probably the best popular writer on the western esoteric tradition since Colin Wilson; in this collection of essays, he kicks it off with a brief investigation of Wilson's ideas, before proceeding on a series of vignettes about many major western esoteric thinkers and scholars, ranging from the polymathic Swedenborg and romantic revolutionary Eliphas Levi through the sini. Douglas said A Good Introduction. Most of the entries are interesting. The only downside is that they're also fairly short (though there are a lot of them). They're kind of like really well written encyclopedia entries; after reading some of them, you'll be looking for a full book on these characters.. Five Stars Stenie M.
