At the age of 17, Earl joined the Navy and was stationed at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. As a child, Earl's Father had been sent to prison for killing a man. Earl Bertram was my Father, my Daddy, my Dad. Earl was an officer for the Jefferson County Police Department in Louisville, KY. A tribute to Earl Bertram who was a Champion Heavy Weight in the Navy. 5 stars I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading good books! This book would be a great gift to anyone serving our country, soldiers or law enforcement!. Kimla Goff said Touching true story!. I sat down thinking that I would read a few chapters, but I couldn't put it down until I had read the entire book. The story is about the family of a a stand-up police officer as told by his son, and his view of the events that occurred as seen through the eyes of a young boy. The story follows the family through the years, and chronicles the tears and triumphs that they have endured. The personal story of a sons angst as a result of his perception of unresolved feelings, and his ultimate redemption left me crying my eyes out and then crying joyfully. Seld. A must read. It shows us how thankful we should be to the men & women who risk their lives every day to keep us safe. Most of all to GOD for every day that goes by that he has kept us healthy & safe. This book brought both tears to my eyes & joy to my heart. Like his other books it shows the loving character of the author.
