DESCRIPTION:
An extremely high quality book with excellent photographs. M. Tyler I was extremely impressed by this book. Note that it is largely a picture book, illustrated exclusively with black and white photographs - but what photographs!! When well done, black and white photgraphs are superior to those in color, and the photos in this book are very, very well done and expertly printed on each page. What text there is (and it is printed in English, German, and French) is intelligent, and the each photo has an informative caption (also in all 3 languages). The various Dover picture books by William H. From first class to steerage, deck games to banquets, from the celebrations of maiden voyages to the adversity of disaster in both war and peace, this book contains over 350 photographs from the Hulton Getty Picture Collection. Also in three languages: English, German and French.. Rivalries between nations abounded, epitomized by the race for the Atlantic and the prized Blue Riband, and reflected in the names of many of the ocean giants: Vaterland, Britannic, Ile de France.
