"Grand Prix Cars 19Grand Prix Cars 1945-65 Roger D. Davis Very good history of Formula 1; well illustrated.. 5-65" according to Roger D. Davis. Very good history of Formula 1; well illustrated.. "a must for the real F-1 fan" according to A Customer. This book is a detailed summary of each Team that has fielded a car on the F-1 circuits of the world. An essential resource for anyone who loves F-1 and desires to understand the sport the people and their history. This volumn is well written with sufficent detail to start any search for information. I am waiting for the next volumn ie: Grand Prix Cars 1965 and beyond.. Vince Dattoli said A great period reference- though a bit dry. This is a great book for insight into the cars of the era,as well as a bit about the drivers. Great photos helped fill out the descriptions to give a sense of the era as well. The text was a bit clinical however, and reads like an encyclopedia of the subject. So a good book, not a great book, but probably the most comprehensive snapshot of the cars in the time period that I've found.
Grand Prix Cars 1945-65 is both an indispensible reference and compelling reading.. This indispensible reference is a refreshing reminder of an era when great motor racing reputations were built. Mike Lawrence recalls not only charismatic marques like Ferrari, Maserati and Alfa Romeo from Italy; Mercedes-Benz and Porsche from Germany; and BRM, Lotus and Cooper from the UK - cars with which drivers like Fangio, Ascari, Moss and Hawthorne became international stars - but also the most obscure names like Clairmonte, Kieft, Stebro and Walker, all of which were part of the total GP scene

In 1966, Mike was awarded a PhD for research into Shakespeare's stage techniques and he has taught courses on Shakespeare for the Universities of Sussex and Gothenburg.
