"Gritty, intense writing" according to Sela. Intense, original, shocking - no one colors a scene like Hunter S. Thompson. However, this may not be the best choice for a reader who seeks a logical pattern of interwoven themes or writing infused with solid purpose. Thompson meanders, loses focus, drops thoughts which he may or may not pick up later. He and his lawyer, while brilliant, are not "likable". This is not a pretty or a tidy book..
