CharlieTX said Some may like the security of an adjunct source of info.. We spent 5 weeks in Europe, riding the trains every other day. This help to learn the reservation system, etc. It was not necessary to carry along.. A great book on rail travel in Europe This book is for the veteran rail travelers in Europe. The first 60% of the book is on 50 major train routes in continental Europe, plus many "side tracks". Each route is supplemented by a small rail map and a time table. At each route, it also has a one-pager on each city the route runs through. It covers some cities that are not covered in other similar books (for example: Cologne, Germany). However, to best plan your rail trips in Europe, I strongly recommend getting "Europe by Eurail" by LaVerne Ferguson
