DESCRIPTION:
It is also an essential text for VLSI design courses.. All levels of system abstraction are covered, but the emphasis rests squarely on circuit design. Packed with practical know-how, it is an indispensable reference for practicing circuit designers, architects, system designers, CAD tool developers, process technologists, and researchers. Each topic of this invaluable reference stands alone so the chapters can be read in any order. This book covers the design of next generation microprocessors in deep submicron CMOS technologies. Examples are drawn from processors designed at AMD, Digital/Compaq, IBM, Intel, MIPS, Mitsubishi, and Motorola. The following topics are covered in depth:Architectural constraints of CMOS VLSI designTechnology scaling, low-power devices, SOI, and process variationsContemporary design styles including a survey of logic families, robust dynamic circuits, asynchronous logic, self-timed pipelines, and fast arithmetic unitsLatches, clocks and clock distribution, phase-locked and delay-locked loopsRegister file, cache memory, and embedded DRAM designHigh-speed signaling te
Well written and a useful reference Pradeep Kanapathipillai A VERY good reference for custom circuit designers, especially for those in high-end processor design. I have been using this text since grad school days. Although each chapter is written by a different set of authors, all of them well known in that respective area, it is still cohesive. It covers a lot of aspects like DFT/BIST, Electromigration etc in sufficient detail to get one started. Perhaps not a good introductory book on circuit design, but definitely a good reference.. SK said good advanced VLSI book. Clear diagrams. Decent detail and explanation of advanced VLSI concepts. -1 for being fairly dry reading and a little out of date..
