J. Michna said A very good, but incomplete biography. I've been a "friend" of Bill and Dr. Bob since Christmas 1990, and have read a lot of material, both "conference approved" and other, and this biography of Bill W. ranks among the best, but it definitely gives the impression of being written from Bill's perspective.Fully half the book is devoted to Bill's childhood and early adulthood, through his marriage to Lois and up to the fateful encounter with Dr. Bob, and so this fleshes out that portion of his life. I was disappointed, however, in that the impact and devastation of Bill's man. "A nice read--concise but revealing." according to David J. Rickard. At 15 years sober, I didn't find that it added a lot to other accounts, but maybe that is only my always looking for more and new information about this great life. I did like the accounts of Bill's struggle and effort to turn over the fellowship to the fellowship and to pass on the traditions. I also appreciated the more personal touches in describing the growing pains of the early fellowship. Would recommend, especially to newer folks or those not looking for a dense read like " Not God.". Jane A. Hodgdon said Humbling story of a man and his dream. This story belongs to any friend of Bill's. It is our story. Captivating, heart wrenching and motivating. I couldn't put it down. A must read.
