DESCRIPTION:
By demonstrating the current theories of turbulent combustion within a cohesive presentation, this book makes a unified contribution to engineering and applied mathematics.. This monograph presents a thorough introduction to the field of turbulent combustion. The combustion of fossil fuels remains a key technology for the foreseeable future. It is therefore important to understand combustion mechanisms, in particular, the role of turbulence within this process. After an overview of modeling approaches, Peters considers the three distinct cases of premixed, nonpremixed, and partially premixed combustion, respectively
"this reviewer believes that Turbulent Combustion will probably be counted among the most significant steps of progress in turbulenceIt will serve as a thorough, ready, and reliable reference for all combustion experts and modelers." Applied Mechanical Review July 2001"this book gives a superb account of the modern developments in turbulence models for reacting flows, and masterfully blends asymptotics, numerics, and experiments into a cohesive description of turbulent combustioneasy and enjoyable to read." SIAM Review
It you do industrial combustion simulations, this is a great book Norbert is a great combustion scientist and in this book he discusses in great details on the fundamentals on turbulent combustion. His treatment is very mathematical and the explanations are clear - very easy to read. In particular, the use of flamelet is treated in great details. This book is more geared for RANS simulations; I would like to see future editions to add more materials on LES.. Good Combustion Book Sumit Soni This book contains a very good theoretical concepts of turbulent combustion. This book shows why Peters is so much regarded in combustion community. First chapter contains a good overview of present numerical approached to solve turbulent combustion problem. Till now I have covered only premixed part of the book, which I find very interesting and illuminating. Also the book cover G-equation model in very good detail.
