Kurt Seraphine. INFORMATIVE AND ENTERTAINING PJG Major General Maury's recollections are of a way of life that no longer exists. The writing style is a little dated but is easy to read and gives a good description of the times. He takes the reader into the world of the "southern gentleman" with its class consciousness and "good " families but the harsh practicalities of years on the frontier and military life are also present. Maury had an eye for detail that would appeal to historians and many 21st. century readers will enjoy his reminiscences.PJG. Good account of History Paul Brueske Good account of History, includes Maury's interactions with such historical figures as Nathan B. Forrest, Stonewall Jackson, Joseph Johnston and Richard Taylor.
