DESCRIPTION:

Beautifully rendered watercolor birds. I bought this book right after I bought the John James Audubon coloring book as I wanted to watercolor some of the pictures so thought this would be helpful in getting the colors accurate. I did order a used book to save on the money but I was shocked when this bad boy showed up on my porch. It is basically the size of a coffee table book and so full of both imformation, and beautiful artwork. I have always been a fan of the Audubon watercolors, as a watercolor artist myself I appreciate the subtle beauty in these wonderful paintings and sketches. There is a lot of info on Mr Audubon himself and his life. Such a great artis. Great stuff, even though I hate Roman numerals. Excellent scholarly work that explains and shows what Audubon did, and how he did it. As a collector of original Audubon Havell prints, I found the introductory chapters to be informative, readable and very helpful. Wonderful explanations of his technique. About eighty of the plates are rendered nearly full size in this large book. The other 390 are included in an index as full-color 3 X Great stuff, even though I hate Roman numerals. John W. Mckenna This is a book of reproductions of Audubon's actual watercolor paintings - not the printed plates. I love the watercolors much more than the plates, and since I was studying watercolor painting this was exactly what I needed - to see what he did and get an idea of his techniques, etc when he was painting. One note - he did go ahead and also use whatever other medium worked - so a lot of these also have some pastel and other things too.
