And as he paints, the island's secrets begin to stir. But Duma has been waiting for him, and something in the view from his window urges him to discover a talent he never knew he had. Secrets of children lost in the undertow, of a ghost ship riding the distant horizon - and a family's buried past reaching long hands into the present.. Edgar Freemantle begins to paint. When Edgar Freemantle moves to the remote island of Duma Key to escape his past, he doesn't expect to find much there
You have to mark the white. But also a slot for blackness to pour through.Still, imagine that small hand lifting the pencil hesitating and then marking the white. That's what happened. "Sure," I answered. I know it was excruciating, but it's all pretty academic. When things tightened up, I never tried to play big. "I'm thinking of calling it Duma Key," he offered. This was in Minnesota, in my other life. Or so I’ve come to believe.Imagine a little girl, hardly more than a baby. Pictures are magic, as you know.My Other Life My name is Edgar Freemantle. At the time it was more like climbing a mountain. Then he dropped the other shoe: "I think Duma Key might be my story of divorce."Pretty soon I received a slim package fro
I enjoyed the book VickyB I enjoyed the book, other than that King gets too heavily into bashing President Bush. As usual, he lets his politics seep into the story, although his characters are people who would typically be conservatives. They are often average people who do ordinary things in life and would NOT support liberal Democrats. It's a shame that King can't write a single story without allowing his political bashing to overcome his judgement.. Gelsomina said Not all of Stephen King's books are that good. The plot is interesting. Well written. Not all of Stephen King's books are that good. The plot is interesting, but the conflicted ,somewhat enraged, wounded narrator, with a no so common ( in books anyway) handicap , is surprising; but a book, for me, has to be well written (I used to teach Portuguese Literature), and this one is. It's dark, and leaves some questions unanswered, but that's how a first person narration should end. I recommend it.. Martha C. Pulrang said King at his "subdued" best. I had this book on my Kindle for months before I got the chance to read it. It started out somewhat slowly, but when it hit full "King" it hit! Like his other books, the character development of not only the main character, but the supporting ones as well is amazing. The descriptions of what is going on bring you in and grab hold. I am glad that this was suggested to me, and that I took the time to read it.
