Essentially the story - the gay multiple world champion - has been told before. The Willie Toweel slant is original and very touching (when you kill a friend with your fists in the ring there is no “moving on” - you go to Mass everyday for the rest of your life - wow!). The tale tells of a simple dignity and comradeship between fighters that crosses nationality, religion, race and language.The book sags badly in the final quart.
